“There was a war in heaven, Michael and his angels against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought, but they were defeated and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world – he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.”

St. Michael versus the Devil |

|
The first St. Michael’s Conference was founded in 1960 on the East Coast by a group of Episcopal priests committed to the Anglo-Catholic tradition of catholic worship and evangelical outreach. They were seeking to provide an orthodox venue for the spiritual formation of young Christians. Monastic, Orthodox, Catholic, Anglican and evangelical traditions were combined to form a balanced, intensive week-long encounter with God.
St. Michael’s Midwest is based faithfully on this same powerful spiritual tradition. Founded in 1994 in mid-Michigan with seven youngsters and seven staff, it has grown to a vibrant community of over 70 conference participants per year. The purpose of St. Michael’s is to train Christian leaders to face the challenges and temptations presented by the many anti-Christian forces in the world today.
St. Michael is a good patron saint for this community. He symbolizes strong religion, a joyful religion, a religion of service to God and to others. He is also a warrior saint, who does not back down at the prospect of a confrontation with Evil. His name means ‘who is like God?’ and he stands in permanent opposition to all movements and powers which set themselves up as a substitute or rival to the Holy Trinity.
St. Michael is also the patron saint for policemen, firemen, soldiers and all those who place themselves, their lives and futures, between Evil and the innocent.
There are also several other St. Michael’s conferences across North America. Click on the links listed to the left to discover more. |
